In GNU Emacs 24.0.92.4 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
 of 2011-12-26 on t520sds
Windowing system distributor `The X.Org Foundation', version 11.0.11004000
configured using `configure  '--with-wide-int''

C-x v d (vc-dir) shows files in .gitignore as "ignored".
Other backends do not show ignored files at all.
This seems to be a bug.
