Please reopen this bug; the above "fix" does not fix the bug. You have to understand that unrmail in batch mode is used to process a set of BABYL files to produce a parallel set of mbox files. For example, find Rmail -type f -exec grep -q '^BABYL OPTIONS' {} \; \ -exec ~/bin/emacs-22.3-install/bin/emacs -batch \ -f batch-unrmail {} \; >& log Users likely would use further scripts to automatically move the resulting *.mail mbox files into place. The correct behavior is simply to produce a zero length output file with no messages. - Mark From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sat Jan 14 16:36:02 2012 Received: (at 10377) by debbugs.gnu.org; 14 Jan 2012 21:36:03 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:57686 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.72) (envelope-from ) id 1RmBGb-0008Qg-JX for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Sat, 14 Jan 2012 16:36:02 -0500 Received: from fencepost.gnu.org ([140.186.70.10]:37506) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.72) (envelope-from ) id 1RmBGY-0008QS-TZ for 10377@debbugs.gnu.org; Sat, 14 Jan 2012 16:35:59 -0500 Received: from rgm by fencepost.gnu.org with local (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1RmBFo-00054w-Jd; Sat, 14 Jan 2012 16:35:12 -0500 From: Glenn Morris To: mark.lillibridge@hp.com Subject: Re: bug#10377: closed (Re: bug#10377: unrmail fails to produce any output for a empty BABYL folder) References: X-Spook: fraud UFO USCOI Bletchley Park 9/11 United Nations X-Ran: F&%}n$&TF`ZP[u^GT:)*^\WZyze0j*;O{I"{_Di5;9]APqy[+zWlPN1~sKby7}/)^F{MDg X-Hue: green X-Debbugs-No-Ack: yes X-Attribution: GM Date: Sat, 14 Jan 2012 16:35:12 -0500 In-Reply-To: (Mark Lillibridge's message of "Sat, 14 Jan 2012 11:52:44 -0800") Message-ID: User-Agent: Gnus (www.gnus.org), GNU Emacs (www.gnu.org/software/emacs/) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Spam-Score: -4.2 (----) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 10377 Cc: 10377@debbugs.gnu.org X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.13 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Sender: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org X-Spam-Score: -4.2 (----) Mark Lillibridge wrote: > have to understand that unrmail in batch mode is used to process a set > of BABYL files to produce a parallel set of mbox files. Since unrmail has never produced output for these files, I'm not going to spend any more time on changing this now. If this is something you actually need to handle in practice on a frequent basis, I suggest using a handful of extra shell commands to check for empty BABYL files and treat them separately.
