Since there has been no response in a few months, and since there has
been at least one similar report of excessive memory consumption has
been resolved in the meantime
(http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2012-03/msg00136.html), I
will close the bug.  Feel free to reopen if the problem persists.
