Note that I tried again with iTerm which supports 256 colors. $TERM was set to xterm-256color. list-colors-display shows 256 different colors including bright white (which really looks white), but &quot;white&quot; is still listed as #e5e5e5, and <meta charset="utf-8">the window background color is still grey.
