Got it. I see it does work for me. (I stopped using that distro last year because it's slow and buggy in other ways.). That's perfect as I can try to analyze it now. I'm curious, perhaps morbidly so.

Thank you for that. I also verified that his 30.1 build does not take dictation, should it be a difference in compilation by the distro producers.

David's build script hasn't changed in months so it ain't that. Looking deeper now.

This looks like a build-time toolchain issue and it will take some further investigation.

Making some progress.  Definitely a toolchain issue and nothing to do with Emacs source code, per se.  I was able to build a 29.4 that accepts dictation and working through getting a 30.1 to work.  After that, I'll see if I can work up some documentation and some recommendations.
