I have scripts that regularly do an fdisk –l and put it into a subversion repository (on another server, and I have it checked out on my desktop). Why? Because this gives me all the information I need to make the partitions again should I need it. I also save mdadm, lvm, smart, … and a lot other information about my disks. Occasionally there are changes, and then I get an alert about it, usually because I resized a logical volume group, but it has also been because a disk stopped responding. No I wont send you the scripts, because you’ll learn more by doing and implementing them yourself.
